'Thousands' at illegal rave as police descend following 'stabbing' reports

Police have swooped in on an illegal rave where it has been claimed thousands of people were gathered.

There are also unconfirmed reports of a stabbing in the same area, after large numbers of Greater Manchester Police vehicles were seen in Carrington this evening.

Manchester Evening News reports that a huge police presence was seen at Mile Road in Flixton at around 9.30pm this evening.

Eyewitnesses say there were 50 emergency services vehicles in attendance, with road closures in place.

The rave appears to be taking place near a water treatment centre in front of a paper mill.

One eyewitness claims there were thousands of people gathered.

There have also been multiple reports of a stabbing in the area, but this has not been confirmed by Greater Manchester Police.

All indoor social gatherings remain banned under the UK's coronavirus lockdown rules, unless you are living alone and have formed a 'bubble' with one other household.

One eyewitness who asked not be named said: "There's something massive going on at the top of the Mile Road in Flixton.

"Huge police presence, and at least 50 or 60 cars all parked up. Roads blocked off, and about 100 people walking away from the scene.

"It's huge, whatever it is."

"It looked like a nightclub at kicking out time, it was incredibly busy."

Greater Manchester Police have been approached for comment.
