Thousand Oaks country club says it won't deny privileges to Caitlyn Jenner

June 03--The Thousand Oaks country club where Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce, has been a longtime member denied reports that Jenner would lose male-only privileges after her transition.

On Tuesday, TMZ reported that Sherwood Country Club separates men and women throughout its facilities, including where they dine. The report said that the women's eating area was not as nice as the men's. TMZ said that the club's "rules partially segregate [Jenner] from the male members" at the club where she has been a longtime member and a regular on the golf course. The story was picked up by numerous news outlets.

In a statement, the club said it was "very disappointed and surprised" to see the reports.

"The club was never contacted and had no input into stories about Caitlyn Jenner, and it shows," the statement read. "Reporting of discord between Ms. Jenner and this club is entirely false. Bruce Jenner has and continues to be a valued and long term member at the club."

The club said it would not comment on members' private use of the club or Jenner's future use of the facilities.

Sherwood said it was "very proud of the wonderful facilities it offers to both its male and female members and their guests" and that facilities are being upgraded during a restoration project that includes changes to the golf course and dining facilities.

Jenner, 65, made her public debut and announced her new name on the cover of Vanity Fair on Monday. ESPN announced this week that it would honor the former Olympian with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award in July, which will be her first major public appearance since revealing her new name and appearance.

On Tuesday, Jenner tweeted a link to ESPN's press release about the award, writing, "What the hell am I going to wear?"
