Thoughts and prayers for Kilmarnock after police attend serious incidents in town

Heartfelt messages of support have been sent to the emergency services and people of Kilmarnock following's tonight's incidents in the town.

Police have confirmed they are dealing with three 'potentially linked' incidents across the town at Crosshouse Hospital, Portland Street near the viaduct in the town centre and on the A76.

It is being reported that someone may have been stabbed at the hospital site.

Social media has been reacting to this evening's developments with First Minister Nicola Sturgeon leading the wishes of goodwill while asking people to stay away from the town.

The First Minister tweeted earlier this evening: "My thoughts are with those involved in these very serious incidents in Crosshouse/Kilmarnock.

"Please help @AyrshirePolice do their job by following the advice to stay away from the areas affected."

Scottish Government health secretary Jeanne Freeman MSP praised the emergency services and healthcare workers for all that they are doing.

She said: "My thoughts are with all those affected by the serious incident in Crosshouse/Kilmarnock tonight and my thanks to police and healthcare staff who are dealing with this."

The events of the night have sent shockwaves across the United Kingdom.

A priest in England sent a "prayer request" on Twitter whilst reacting to the news.

Father Marc Lyden-Smith of Seaham, County Durham said: "Prayer Request #kilmarnock Police called to 'serious incident' at Crosshouse Hospital. Police said they were also dealing with another serious incident in the town, on Portland Street. #Pray4Kilmarnock#NHS."

Healthcare professionals across Scotland have also sent their thoughts to colleagues at Crosshouse.

The Glasgow Royal Infirmary tweeted: " Our thoughts are with our friends and colleagues at Crosshouse hospital tonight @NHSaaa."

Gerry Wright, a recently-retired manager for emergency care at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, Renfrewshire said: "Thoughts with colleagues at Crosshouse Hospital, incredibly sad @NHSaaa @CrosshouseED."

Ayrshire GP Alexia Pellowe said: "Thoughts and prayers to friends and colleagues working at #Crosshouse."
