'Thoughtless' East Lothian thugs leave locals shocked after Musselburgh car smashing spree

East Lothian residents have been left calling for police action today after vehicles across the busy town of Musselburgh were left with smashed windscreens following a ' crime spree '.

Damaged cars at Kerrs Wynd, Esk Side and Whitehill Avenue were found by devastated owners this morning and locals have taken to social media to voice their outrage.

Musselburgh residents shared photos of the carnage from their town on a community forum, with other members commenting that the crime was 'needless and disgusting'.

Photos of at least six cars have been shared online, with police investigating vandalism in five areas of the town.

Yesterday Edinburgh Live reported that dozens of vehicles were targeted in South Queensferry by thoughtless vandals with police launching an investigation into the rampage.

Sergeant Colin McDonald of Musselburgh Police Station said: "We can confirm that a number of reports have been received relating to vehicles vandalised in Musselburgh overnight between Saturday, 26 December and Sunday, 27 December.

"These include in the James Street, New Street, Clayknowes Way, Whitehill Avenue and Somerset Fields areas of the town.

"Enquiries are ongoing and at an early stage to establish any links between the incidents."
