Thoughtful schoolgirl raises hundreds of pounds for NHS by making rainbow keyrings

A thoughtful youngster has been hard at work making colourful keyrings to help raise cash for frontline workers.

Creative Maddie Sharp, eight, has already raised more than £350 by making rainbow keyrings in support of the NHS.

The talented schoolgirl was inspired by the late Sir Captain Tom Moore to take on the crafting challenge and has so far sold almost 100 keyrings.

Her proud parents Gemma and Paul are frontline workers, as is her grandmother - who works in a care home. All three of them also prompted artistic Maddie to start her fundraising mission.

Her efforts have proved so popular that she smashed her original target of £100 on the first day.

Maddie’s mum Gemma said they are all delighted at the response from people so far.

She said: “It has just been amazing and she has been enjoying being busy.

“She is such a kind and thoughtful girl.

“She is aware of everything that is going on and me and her dad are still out working and she seen the likes of Sir Captain Tom Moore on the news which made her want to do something too.

“She absolutely loves drawing and would do it all day if she could, so she’s really been enjoying making the keyrings.

“We can’t believe how much she has raised already, it has been fantastic.

“She takes everything in her stride and we have had a few orders coming in so she’s been really busy.

“Every time another donation comes in she jumps about for
joy.”

In her determination to raise as much money as she can, the East Fulton Primary pupil has also set herself another challenge alongside making keyrings.

Cheerleader Maddie also plans to take part in a tough fitness challenge every day until her birthday next month to help boost donations.

Proud mum Gemma has been filming her at their Linwood home completing her own fitness routine, which includes, squats, burpees, star jumps and sit-ups.

Gemma added: “She is so hardworking.

“She has been doing all her schoolwork every day as well as doing her cheerleading Zoom classes four days a week and now she is making keyrings and doing her own fitness challenge.

“She wanted to do something extra in case people didn’t want to buy a keyring.

“She really enjoys school and cheerleading so she has just been getting on with it all.

“We are so proud.”
