Thoughtful Edinburgh kids have been leaving heartwarming thank you notes for council bin crews

Thoughtful Edinburgh kids have been leaving heartwarming thank you notes for council bin collection crews.

Waste disposal teams have come across a number of colourful posters left on bins while out doing refuse pick-ups across the city.

And workers have been keen to highlight their gratitude, admitting it gives them such a boost knowing how much their efforts are appreciated amid the COVID-19 lockdown.

Operative Jim Binnie said: "Always puts a wee smile on my face, especially when we get a wave from the windows too.”

Driver Terry Myles added: "When the crew arrive at Powderhall brae the residents come out and clap to show their appreciation.”

Steve Berwick, also a driver, says "it's nice to know we are appreciated".

While notes are being left for waste disposal teams across the city, bin crews have been spreading an important message of their own.

New branding is featured on Edinburgh bin lorries (The City of Edinburgh Council)

The City of Edinburgh Council has introduced new branding to six bin lorries doing the rounds in the capital. These all feature important coronavirus messaging.

Council Leader Adam McVey said: “Our waste crews are doing a fantastic job of keeping the city moving by carrying out essential bin collections – and now they’re helping us share important messages with the public.

"Our colourful bin lorries are sporting advice for helping us to respond to the coronavirus crisis, and of course a thank you to the teams delivering core services during this time.”

Depute Leader Cammy Day added: “You might have spotted our newly-branded bin lorries doing their rounds – they’re helping to encourage people to dispose of rubbish responsibly and safely.

"That said, I know the vast majority of people are following our advice and I’d like to thank them for their support and patience during this time.”
