'Thought this was it' - Arsenal fans go crazy after Gunners post Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang tweet

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang looks set to continue at Arsenal for the foreseeable future.

The Gunners’ captain is out of contract in less than a year, with speculation around his future rife.

Clubs such as Barcelona have been linked with an interest in the striker, and the Gabon international could leave the club for nothing next season should he not put pen to paper on a new contract.

However, recent reports suggest that Arsenal have been successful in tying the player down to a new deal.

It is reported that an announcement is expected soon, with the striker expected to sign a new three-year contract at the Emirates Stadium.

That news has left fans waiting with baited breath for an official announcement by the club.

Upon the release of the new away kit, one tweet, in particular, gained a big reaction from Arsenal fans on Twitter.

Alongside a picture of Aubameyang in the new shirt, the Gunners wrote: “A U B A” in-between two emojis of lightning bolts.

While some thought the tweet was a hint to an imminent announcement, others weren’t too impressed with the ‘teasing’ from the club.

Aubameyang has proven to be an important player for Arsenal since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018.

The 31-year-old has scored 70 goals in 109 appearances in all competitions for the club, including both goals in the 2-0 FA Cup final win over Chelsea.

Keeping the striker at the Emirates Stadium could prove to be the most important bit of business that Unai Emery does this summer.
