On May 7, cross-border shelling from Pakistan killed 13 civilians in Poonch and left several others injured. Among the deceased was 52-year-old Amrik Singh. But his nephew Jamrodh Singh says it could all have been different had the local administration issued a proper warning.
“Had they warned us in time, we would have moved to safety,” he says. “We mistook it for another mock drill, and many lost their lives.”
“Even Virat Kohli goes with proper security to play an IPL match. But here, in a war-like situation, no one warned us.”
Jamrodh also criticises the war-mongering by TV channels and social media accounts. “War isn’t fought on social media. Come to the ground. See it for yourself.”
