Reports of a 'stabbing' at Thorpe Park in Chertsey, Surrey, are appearing on social media this evening, Saturday, July 18.

In a statement recently sent to Surrey Live, Thorpe Park confirmed that a guest at the park has suffered serious injuries.

"On 18th July 2020, an incident took place at the Thorpe Park Resort where a guest was seriously injured by another guest," part of the statement reads.

The incident took place on a footbridge into the popular theme park, with guests locked down inside the resort as police attended.

The male victim’s injuries are not life-threatening and the incident is not being treated as terrorism, it is understood.

The theme park has also confirmed the news on social media in a series of Tweets.

"2 of 2 The Resort’s fully trained security & medical staff were on scene within minutes & administered immediate care until emergency services teams arrived. We are co-operating fully with the Police & their ongoing investigations. We'd like to thank guests for their patience."

Speaking to SurreyLive, theme park goer Tony Stone said: "I’m here with my children who are very concerned and upset.

"We could see paramedics working on someone on the bridge. We have been told to come back in the park," he said.

Some of the visitors, who were at the park today, have also been tweeting about the incident.

"Just left Thorpe Park after being locked in there after 2 hours due to a stabbing, who on earth takes a knife to a family theme park? Strange world we live in!!," one Twitter user posted.

According to The Mirror, a father who is at the attraction with his kids, said he saw paramedics attending to a patient on a bridge.

And a mother said her daughter is at Thorpe Park and has been told she can't leave.
