Thorpe Park incident: Two arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after person 'seriously injured' at Surrey theme park

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was "seriously injured" in an attack at Thorpe Park.

The Surrey theme park was put on lockdown while emergency services rushed to the scene on Saturday.

The victim suffered a slash wound to his stomach following an "altercation" between two groups of people on the theme park's footbridge at around 4.50pm.

The two suspects, both aged in their 20s, remain in custody.

Thorpe Park said that its on-site medical staff provided emergency first aid after the incident on Saturday.

The victim is understood to be male and is in hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Ride-goers were locked down inside the resort with pictures on social media showing crowds bunched up inside the park.

The incident is not currently being treated as terror-related, it is understood.

In a statement, the theme park said: "An incident took place at the Thorpe Park Resort today, where a guest was seriously injured by another guest.

"The health, safety and security of our guests is our number one priority and we have never had any incidents of this type in over 40 years of operating.

"The Resort’s fully trained security & medical staff were on scene within minutes & administered immediate care until emergency services teams arrived.

"We are co-operating fully with the Police & their ongoing investigations. We'd like to thank guests for their patience."

Detective Inspector Andy Greaves said: "I'm keen to hear from anyone who saw what happened or who has video footage of this assault.

"The two groups of people were close to the exit inside the park on the bridge when the assault took place.

"We're still trying to establish what has happened, however I'd like to stress that this incident is not being treated as terrorism-related at the current time.

"Enquiries are ongoing to locate all those believed to have been involved. Officers will remain in the area for some time this evening and I'd like to thank Thorpe Park for their assistance and co-operation with our investigation".
