Thorntons chocolate announces Glasgow closures with 30 jobs at risk

Chocolate chain Thorntons has announced it will be shutting two of its Glasgow stores, putting 30 jobs at risk.

A spokeswoman from the British confectionery giant confirmed that the Braehead and Glasgow Fort locations would closing.

The firm said after reviewing their store estate they had made the decision to close both shops in September.

The news leaves 30 Glasgow jobs under threat.

In a statement to Glasgow Live she said: "Like any retailer, we are continuously reviewing our store estate to ensure we are in the locations that meet our customer needs.

"As a result of such a review, the decision was taken to close the stores at Braehead on 7 September 2019 and Glasgow Fort on 21 September 2019 respectively.

"Currently, 30 staff members are employed at the stores and we are looking to find them other employment opportunities where possible."


Thorntons trades from about 228 stores across the UK plus 186 franchise shops.

The chain still have locations in Buchanan Galleries, Sauchiehall St, St Enochs and Silverburn.
