Thornliebank murder: Police continue hunt for Anthony Ferns killer

Police investigating the murder of a 33-year-old man in Thornliebank have conducted a stop and interview operation in the area.

One week on from Anthony Ferns' death on Thursday, April 18, officers were in Crebar Street between the hours of 9.30pm and 10.30pm.  More than 40 people were spoken to, including dog walkers and people coming home from work.  Officers also stopped a number of vehicles, including two buses.

The information gathered from the operation is now being assessed by officers and any relevant lines of inquiry will be followed up.

Search launched for missing teen Courtney Semple with links to Glasgow and Dumbarton

Anthony was sitting in his blue Audi A3 in Crebar Street at its junction with Roukenburn Street when he was approached by a man who attacked and injured him, which led to his death.

The suspect is white, between 20 and 30 years of age and around 5ft 8 to 6ft in height.  At the time of the attack he was wearing a dark coloured tracksuit and possibly a light coloured baseball cap.

Officers are continuing to appeal for the occupants of a car which drove along Crebar Street and passed the Audi A3 just at the time the crime occurred.

Detectives are appealing for the driver and occupants of this vehicle to contact them.  There is nothing to suggest that this car has any connection to the crime.

Detective Chief Inspector Grant MacLeod said: "Our aim last night was to speak to as many people as possible in an effort to jog their memories. People may have seen something that appeared insignificant at the time but now they know that a murder has taken place, it may strike some meaning.

"As part of our ongoing enquiries we gather as much information as possible, no matter how small, as once it is pieced together it could provide a clearer picture of what has happened.

"I would like to thank everyone last night for their co-operation and let them know we have gained some important information which officers are in the process of following up.

"I am also appealing to the occupants of the car which passed the Audi, I am sure they have crucial information which will greatly assist us in our enquiries, so please do contact us"
