Thorniewood boss eyes 'at least' five friendlies as he kickstarts his 'reign'

Jamie Nesbitt wants at least five friendlies scheduled as he prepares for not only the ‘start’ of the West of Scotland League, but his Thorniewood management career.

That kicks off on June 5 with their first pre-season fixture against Shotts, and Nesbitt says the schedule will take them up to the week before the league kicks off on July 17.

Thorniewood have retained 16 from last season and have three coming in, while Ali Morgan has opted to join Fauldhouse and James Marr has taken a break from the game entirely.

Nesbitt says he feels like he and assistant Chris Dolan barely got going at the Viewpark club, and they’re looking forward to the challenge.

He said: “The schedule is all sorted, we’ve got five or six friendlies pencilled in, we’re trying to get as many in as we can.

“Usually the strategy is to have a couple of weeks of training, touches of the ball and then into the friendlies, but we have our first on June 5 against Shotts so that will kick us off.

“We’ll have a week of training and then straight into the first friendly, so we’ll see how that goes.

“I feel like this is the start of my Thorniewood management career, because it has been so stop-start; the last two seasons have finished early.

“We’re hoping to get a full season out of it, and it feels like the real start of the West of Scotland League.”
