Thornhill racer Ross Wylie enjoys double GT Cup class success at Oulton Park

Ross Wylie was in dominant form at the weekend as he took two convincing class wins in the GT Cup.

The Thornhill racer and co-driver Paul Bailey charged to two victories in the GTO category in their Brabham BT62 at Oulton Park.

The wins came on the back of a victory at Snetterton last month.

Bailey started the opening 40 minute race from 18th overall and second in class. The action began in damp conditions and when Wylie took over midway through the pair were 24th overall and second in class.

Ten minutes later, Wylie had taken the class lead and charged up to sixth overall, gaining another place before the finish.

The second race was held in dry conditions and Bailey again started. When Wylie got behind the wheel the pair were sixth overall and leading the class, a series of fastest laps seeing Wylie take third overall at the finish.

The 29-year-old said: “I’m delighted to have won a third race in the Brabham with these two victories at Oulton – only the car’s fourth race and my third in the Brabham in total. Track conditions were difficult in race one with the damp track surface.

“I was able to drive race two in anger as it was totally dry, unleashing the awesome pace of the Brabham. Paul’s confidence grows with each race which, in turn, helps me for when I take over as we’re placed in a better position when he pits.

“SB Racing combined with Brabham Automotive gave Paul and I a very competitive car and we were able to reward them with two strong results. We’ve now got a six-week break before the next GT Cup races at Silverstone which is a high-speed track and should ideally suit the Brabham.”
