Thornhill dinner lady retires after 40 years' service

A Thornhill Primary School dinner lady has hung up her apron for the last time.

Sheena Wright retired from the role after 40 years last Friday.

She started work at the school on January 6, 1982, and has served an estimated 300,000 meals in that time.

Sheena was piped out of the school to the sound of the Queen’s Piper Scott Methven as well as children banging on pots and pans.

Sheena’s daughter Michelle Conway said this week: “Mum received a wonderful send off from all the staff at the school.

“They put together a photo book, and the children gave her a jar filled with different ideas for things to do in her retirement.

“They also arranged for the Queen’s Piper Scott Methven to attend, put up bunting, and made mum’s last day super special.

“The Queen’s piper piped for the Queen of Thornhill School on Friday!

“ Mum was overwhelmed by gifts and well wishes from current and past pupils and members of the local community.”
