Residents have been given an extra week to give their views on controversial plans to pedestrianise Thornbury High Street after the consultation accidentally ended early.
An “administrative error” meant it closed 24 hours before the supposed deadline, prompting complaints from “irate” householders.
It will now be open until just before midnight on Sunday (February 7).
South Gloucestershire Council cabinet member for communities and local place Cllr Rachael Hunt apologised for the mistake.
She told a cabinet meeting on Monday, February 1: “Unfortunately due to an administrative error the consultation automatically finished 24 hours early.
“It was brought to our attention and we are going to extend the consultation by a full week to ensure that those who wish to get their comments in have the opportunity to do so.
“Apologies to residents. It’s really frustrating when they want to get their comments in.”
Thornbury ward Cllr Maggie Tyrrell told members: “I had several emails from irate residents yesterday.”
She thanked officers for responding to her request out of hours on Sunday to give people more time to leave their views.
The six-month consultation opened after the road was pedestrianised last June under an experimental traffic order to help social distancing.
Traders fear making it permanent will decimate business at a time when shops and other firms are already struggling from the coronavirus pandemic.
The High Street is currently closed between The Close and Castle Court, with traffic diverted via Midland Lane, Rock Street, Quaker Lane and on to The Plain.
