A project to renovate the dilapidated windows of a Grade II listed building in Thornbury has been completed following a £25,000 grant.
The Chantry Community Centre in Castle Street was established in 1966 in a Grade II listed building dating back to Tudor times.
With many rooms in a range of sizes, a conservatory and a beautiful walled garden, the community centre hosts a wide variety of clubs, courses, activities and events, both indoors and outdoors.
But unless the windows of the centre were restored it was unclear whether it could remain suitable for community use, which is when Enovert Community Trust intervened and handed over £25,000 to bring the building up to scratch.
Dave Derham, chairman and treasurer at the Thornbury and District Community Association which owns and manages The Chantry, said: “The Chantry is used daily by a wide range of organisations from the local community.
“The restoration of the windows was extremely urgent if the building was to remain suitable for community use.
“This project has not only preserved the structure of the windows, but it has transformed the look of the building and has dramatically reduced heat loss through draughts.
“We are extremely grateful to Enovert Community Trust for its generous grant, without which the project would not have been possible.”
The Chantry is located near to Enovert's Shortwood Landfill Site near Bristol.

“The Chantry Community Centre serves an important function in the local community where individuals and groups can meet to enjoy educational, social and recreational activities.”
