Thomas Verheydt closing in on St Mirren transfer as Jim Goodwin eyes deal for imposing striker

St Mirren are closing in on Dutch striker Thomas Verheydt.

Record Sport understands that Jim Goodwin's men are currently in talks with his representatives to bring the imposing 27 year-old Go Ahead Eagles attacker to Paisley.

Verheydt looks set to travel to Scotland this weekend and will take in St Mirren 's Betfred Cup match against Dunfermline at the Simple Digital Arena.

The hitman is hoping to get a feel for the Premiership club and remains hopeful of netting a deal.

The Eerste Divisie side have given Verheydt permission to talk to other clubs despite the fact that the player still has a year left on his current contract and would possibly command a nominal fee.

It is further understood that the Go Ahead Eagles management team will not stand in Verheydt's way should he wish to quit Dutch football and sign for the Saints

Verheydt has already indicated his willingness to accept a new foreign challenge and will not feature in Go Ahead Eagles' game against Excelsior at De Adelaarshorst Stadium on Friday night as he is currently nursing a heel injury.

Aberdeen striker Stevie May is also on Goodwin's radar.
