Thomas Tuchel told why Romelu Lukaku will succeed in second Chelsea spell after £98m transfer

Romelu Lukaku is on the brink of becoming a Chelsea player for the second time, after the Blues agreed a £98million deal with Inter Milan for the striker's services.

Lukaku, who left the west London club in 2014 for Everton, still has a point to prove at Chelsea and will be looking to do that when he completes the imminent move back to the Premier League.

It's understood that the 28-year-old has already completed the first part of his medical and has since flown to London to secure the move to the Blues.

During his first spell at Stamford Bridge, things did not go too well for the Belgium international - who enjoyed limited game time.

Lukaku had Chelsea legend Didier Drogba in front of him in the pecking order, and at such a young age, the chances of the Belgian replacing the Ivorian were very slim.

This is something that former England striker Darren Bent believes, with the pundit tipping Lukaku to become a massive success in his second spell in west London.

"He was 18 years old [in his first spell at Chelsea], he had Didier Drogba in front of him, he was never going to dislodge him," Bent told talkSPORT.

"He’s at the peak of his powers [now]. He gets a bit of stick for his time at Manchester United but if you look at his record in all competitions over the last seven years he’s got 20, 25, 26, 27, 15, 34 and 30 goals (per season).

"If you can’t get excited about a player who’s arguably getting better and better as he’s getting older then you’re not a football fan.

"For me, if Chelsea get him I think he’s the perfect centre forward for that football club.

"They create opportunities and I thought they would have run a lot closer in terms of the top of the table.

"Because [Timo] Werner missed a lot of easy chances last season. I think Lukaku takes most of them and that’s more points on the board and I think Chelsea would’ve run Manchester City and Manchester United a lot closer."

With the Lukaku deal looking very close to completion, the exit door is seemingly getting closer for Tammy Abraham.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Roma are nearing a deal to sign the Chelsea striker, who has been heavily linked with a departure from Stamford Bridge this summer.
