Thomas Tuchel told what to do with Ben Chilwell at Chelsea after Southampton press conference

Ben Chilwell will be hoping he has done enough to finally warrant his first Premier League start of the season as Chelsea welcome Southampton to Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old defender was excellent in his second-half cameo display for Thomas Tuchel after he replaced Marcos Alonso, who had struggled to cope with Juventus' Federico Chiesa in matchday two of the Champions League group stages.

Chelsea's £45 million left-back from Leicester City sustained a 100 per cent pass success rate in the 45 minutes at his disposal while also completing three key passes and nine crosses.

Not only was Chilwell a lot safer and more effective in possession he was also a greater defensive force to reckon with, oppose to Alonso whose performances have started to drop.

Our CareFreeChelsea social producer Jai Mcintosh was joined by our writer and presenter Anita Abayomi and football.london chief Chelsea correspondent Sam Inkersole live on football.london's Chelsea Facebook page, to discuss Tuchel's conundrum at left wing-back between Chilwell and Alonso.

Abayomi kickstarted the discussion by planting her flag in Chilwell's corner, adamant that the England international should reclaim his spot in Tuchel's side.

"Ben Chilwell should definitely be starting on Saturday against Southampton," she said. "This will be the best game to ease him in as well and the fans love him.

"Fans are tired of Alonso and it's time to start easing Chilwell back into the squad and become a permanent left wing-back option again.

Abayomi added by noting Chilwell's excellent 45 minutes for the Blues against Juventus having come on at half-time for Alonso, who struggled in the first half.

"Chilwell gave a really good performance against Juventus," she said. "The 45 minutes he came on it was a sigh of relief. I said Tuchel must start Chilwell against Juventus otherwise Chiesa will run a show with Alonso and he did. Chiesa had all the freedom in the world."

Following a fruitful midweek display in Turin, Anita, as well as other Chelsea fans around the world, will be hoping Chilwell makes his second competitive start this season against the Saints.
