Chelsea midfielder Jorginho had a 'terrible' first-half against West Brom on Saturday.
That is the view of former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Danny Murphy, who delivered his verdict on the Blues ace on Match of the Day following the surprise result at Stamford Bridge.
Christian Pulisic had given Chelsea the lead with his first goal under Thomas Tuchel, but the hosts never recovered from Thiago Silva's 29th minute sending off and went on to concede five against the relegation-threatened Baggies.
However, whilst the Brazilian's departure had a major impact on the Blues, it was the first-half performance of Jorginho that drew the ire of Murphy as he felt the Italy international did not have the best 45 minutes of his career.
"It’s fair to say that none of us predicted it before we started watching it," Murphy said. "There’s a few betting slips and dream teams gone out the window.
"They [West Brom] were superb, not just when they had an extra man, they started the game on the front foot. Yes, the sending off was pivotal, but even before that they played with a freedom that we haven’t seen West Brom play with in a long time.
"That’s credit to Sam [Allardyce] and to the players, maybe the position they’re in has created that freedom.
"Chelsea didn’t half give them a helping hand. Jorginho had a terrible first-half.
"This lunge from Thiago Silva, I’m not sure what he’s thinking. He’s been out for ten games and sometimes you come back and you’re so keen to make an impression - but that’s not how you make an impression.
"He's experienced, he’s better than that."
Jorginho's 'terrible' performance comes after it was revealed that he was the Premier League's best performer in 2021.
That was according to CIES Football Observatory as the Italian, surprisingly, ranked higher than the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Bruno Fernandes, and Harry Kane in the top flight of English football.
But it's back to reality for Jorginho, who has become one of Tuchel's untouchables since being appointed, after a below-par outing against the Baggies.
