Mason Mount can become the next John Terry.
That is according to the Chelsea legend himself as he has stated his belief that the midfielder is a future captain for the Blues as well as the England national team.
Mount has captained the west London outfit on one occasion - that was in the FA Cup fourth-round win over Luton Town last month in what turned out to be Frank Lampard's final game as head coach.
With Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva, and Jorginho all rested for the tie at Stamford Bridge, it was the academy product who captained the side.
And in doing so, Mount became the youngest player (at 22) to wear the armband for the Blues since Terry, who was given the honour as a 21-year-old.
If the midfielder is named Chelsea captain on a permanent basis at some point in the future, then he will become the first academy product to do so since Terry.
Of course, that is unless the likes of Reece James, Tammy Abraham, or Callum Hudson-Odoi jump ahead of Mount in the queue.
But for Terry, he's effectively told new Blues head coach Thomas Tuchel who the future Chelsea captain should be.
"He [Mason Mount] has been the best Chelsea player this season," Terry said during his Instagram live. "He's been here since the age of six, he trains very well and is showing leadership qualities.
"Future Chelsea and England captain [for sure]."
This isn't the first time in which Terry has commented on Mount and the Chelsea captaincy.
Taking to social media after captaining Chelsea for the first time, Mount was understandably emotional.
"Captaining the club I’ve been at since the age of 6, no words can describe the emotion and immense pride!," he wrote on Instagram.
To which Terry responded with a classy four-word message.
"Buzzing for you mate," the Chelsea legend wrote which was accompanied with a 'c' emoji to perhaps reflect that Mount was captain against Luton.
Any decision regarding the next Chelsea captain is unlikely to be made until Azpilicueta leaves the club or relinquishes the armband, and Terry's recommendation could make Mount the favourite to take on that responsibilty.
