Thomas Tuchel sets Chelsea’s Erling Haaland deadline amid major Dortmund decision

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has reportedly set a deadline for the club to make their move for Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland.

The Blues have constantly been linked with the Norwegian frontman throughout the summer as Tuchel aims to bolster his forward line ahead of the 2021/22 season.

Various reports have been swirling including those suggesting that Chelsea have even agreed personal terms with the striker and have lodged an opening bid with his current employers Dortmund.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will be able to convince the Bundesliga giants to sell their star asset, especially after letting Jadon Sancho join Manchester United.

As a matter of fact, the club’s sporting director Michael Zorc has insisted that Dortmund have decided on keeping the former Red Bull Salzburg striker at the club for at least another campaign.

Talking to Bild, he said: “Nothing has changed. We are planning with Erling for the new season!”

According to Bild, the German wants the forward at Stamford Bridge immediately as he continues to plan for next season with Chelsea aiming to better their fourth-placed finish in the Premier League, whilst also assembling a viable defence of their Champions League crown.

Should Haaland not be attained sooner rather than later, the Blues could potentially be forced to look at other attacking options.

Lautaro Martinez and Gerard Moreno have already been linked as possible alternatives to the Norwegian, with Chelsea set to overhaul their forward line.

Timo Werner was hit with inconsistency in his debut Chelsea campaign, whilst fellow forward Olivier Giroud is edging close to joining AC Milan.

Meanwhile, Tammy Abraham has an uncertain future in west London and has been linked with a return to former club Aston Villa.
