Thomas Tuchel set for management return at Bayern Munich six months on from Chelsea sacking

Former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel will make his return to management at Bayern Munich taking over from Julian Nagelsmann who has been sacked. News broke, via Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, on Thursday evening that Nagelsmann was at risk of losing his job at Allianz Arena with the Bayern hierarchy looking at appointing Tuchel in his place and that managerial decision has now been confirmed.

In a statement posted by Bayern, the club revealed the dismissal of Nagelsmann, along with the arrival of Tuchel. The statement read: "FC Bayern and head coach Julian Nagelsmann have parted company. This decision was taken by CEO Oliver Kahn and board member for sport Hasan Salihamidžić in consultation with club president Herbert Hainer. Nagelsmann will be succeeded by Thomas Tuchel."

Bayern also confirmed Tuchel has signed a contract until 2025 and will join up with the squad next Monday. Following his sacking at Chelsea in September 2022, Tuchel has spent the last six months away from football, but the former Borussia Dortmund head coach will now return at the helm of his old clubs' rivals.

Bayern's managerial change now means that Nagelsmann is available for work and that news will certainly peak some interest in north London, specifically at Tottenham.

The future of Antonio Conte appears bleak and it is expected he will not be at the club next season, or perhaps even before the international break has concluded. Tuchel was a name linked with Tottenham, but now the prospect of Nagelsmann being available, in place of Tuchel, could be too good an opportunity for Spurs to turn down.

Tuchel spent 20 months at Chelsea managing 63 games, with 35 of those ending in victories, including a Champions League final triumph over Manchester City in 2021. Both Bayern and Chelsea remain in this season's competition with the German giants facing Man City, while Chelsea are set for a clash with Real Madrid.

If both teams bypass those quarter-final match-ups, Tuchel could make his return to Stamford Bridge as Bayern manager in the Champions League semi-finals.
