Here is your Chelsea morning digest for Wednesday, January 27.
Tuchel appointed
Chelsea have confirmed the appointment of Thomas Tuchel as the club's new head coach.
The 47-year-old, who has previously worked at Mainz, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain, has signed an 18-month contract with the Blues with the "possibility" of an extension and will take charge of his first game on Wednesday when Wolverhampton Wanderers visit Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea turned to the German having made the decision to dismiss club legend Frank Lampard today. The Blues' all-time leading scorer was sacked this morning after a wretched run of form in the Premier League.
Tuchel will be charged with immediately improving Chelsea's results and getting the side back into contention for the Champions League positions.
The Blues currently sit ninth in the top-flight table but are only five points behind fourth-placed Liverpool.
Tuchel credits Lampard
Tuchel paid credit to his predecessors Lampard in his opening statement as the new Chelsea head coach.
“I would like to thank Chelsea FC for their confidence in me and my staff," he told the club website.
“We all have the greatest respect for Frank Lampard’s work and the legacy he created at Chelsea.
“At the same time, I cannot wait to meet my new team and compete in the most exciting league in football. I am grateful to now be part of the Chelsea family - it feels amazing.”
Bent's warning for Tuchel
Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent says it's vital Tuchel hits the ground running at Chelsea.
"You look at who else is out there and he obviously has pedigree with Dortmund and PSG but PSG are the best team in France and you expect to win trophies there," he told Sky Sports.
"I think time will tell and he will be under no illusions that if he doesn't hit the ground running, he will be out of the job by the end of the season because that is Chelsea's model - they sack managers.
"We have seen successful managers get the sack at Chelsea and he will understand that. He has to hit the ground running but first of all, he has to find out his best team and get the best out of them."
