Thomas Tuchel "screaming" at Timo Werner as Chelsea star meets former suitors Liverpool

Timo Werner says he enjoys how new Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel "screams" at him from the touchline as he prepares to face former suitors Liverpool.

Germany forward Werner was widely tipped to make the move to Anfield last summer, only for the Reds to withdraw their interest in him due to the financial constraints posed by the coronavirus crisis.

Chelsea stepped in and signed him from RB Leipzig for £47.5million, but he has so far managed just five goals in 25 Premier League appearances this season.

Having seen Frank Lampard, the manager who signed him, dismissed by the club, Werner is now under the tutelage of a fellow German in Tuchel, and he says he is enjoying playing under him.

"I can talk to him very easily," Werner told BBC Sport.

"When he screams on the pitch, no problem for me. I need types of managers who scream at me. It gives me more power."

Having struggled in front of goal for much of the season, Werner is now confident that goals will begin to flow.

"You can always learn more from the bad situations. I learned to trust in myself, to give everything on the pitch, not only think about goals and fight for the team," he added.

"Now I hope this period is gone and I score a few more goals until the end of the season.

"A lot of good strikers come to the Premier League and take one year to settle down and adapt.

‘I think my form is going up and getting better and better. Maybe this year is not the year of goal scoring for Timo but at the end I will reflect on the season.

"I have learned a lot. I know exactly the teams we play against, how they play."
