Thomas Tuchel's classy message to Chelsea opponents after 13-0 friendly win

Thomas Tuchel gave a classy post-match team talk to Chelsea’s opponents following their 13-0 win in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

The club organised the fixture against Vanarama National League side Weymouth on Sunday afternoon to help improve the fitness levels of those who did not feature in the Premier League on Saturday.

Chelsea quickly showed their class quickly taking the lead after just four minutes, before they went into the half-time interval with an 8-0 lead.

Thiago Silva, Callum-Hudson Odoi and Reece James were all on show in the clash at Cobham training ground.

Ben Chilwell, Emerson Palmieri, Kurt Zouma and Davide Zappacosta also turned out for the Blues against the minnows.

Weymouth player Ollie Harfield explained how it was a tough game for the National League side who were brushed aside by the Blues.

"I didn't expect them to field such a strong team but it was an eye-opener for sure!" Harfield told SPORTbible.

Harfield then explained how Tuchel provided some words of wisdom to his team-mates on the pitch following the defeat.

"He [Tuchel] thanked us for playing. He said he liked the way we tried to do things and never got onto each other when things weren't going well,” he said.

"He also said how it was always going to be this sort of result, playing such a strong team like he did, but appreciated us for being part of it."

Weymouth boss Brian Stock also heaped praise on the German, who also wished them good luck for the season ahead.

"The scoreline, no one wants to lose 13-0 but when you look at the movement, the power, the pace - you can see the top-level and big gulf," Stock told The Dorset Echo.

"The lads kept on going right to the end. Thomas Tuchel came over and said some very nice words to us.

"Apart from the scoreline, everything else was positive."

The Blues got their Premier League campaign off to a flying start at the weekend, when they beat Patrick Viera’s Crystal Palace 3-0.

Marcos Alonso opened the scoring, before Christian Pulisic and Trevor Chalobah made sure of the points.

However, Tuchel downplayed his side’s title chances during his post-match press conference.

"I think we have to hunt the others from day one,” he said.

"This is what we want to do, this is our mentality and we are never shy to fight for the best outcome possible, but the reality is we are not the favourites right now," said the former Borussia Dortmund boss, whose side finished fourth in the league last season.

"I see ourselves as number four last year so we cannot be favourites. We just have to close the gap to number three, number two and number one so this is what we're trying to do."

Tuchel’s side will now switch their focus to Sunday’s Premier league fixture against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

The Blues will then take a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool, before they welcome Aston Villa to Stamford Bridge on September 11.
