Thomas Tuchel's brutal five-word Chelsea claim backed up by supercomputer after Real Madrid loss

Chelsea have a 10 per cent chance of reaching the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League following their 3-1 first-leg defeat to Real Madrid. That's according to FiveThirtyEight's supercomputer, that rates each team's chances of making the semis, the final, and winning the competition outright.

The Blues were beaten 3-1 by Los Blancos on Wednesday evening with Karim Benzema scoring a superb hat-trick for the visitors at Stamford Bridge. Kai Havertz got the only goal of the night for Chelsea to give them a glimmer of hope, but the 13-times champions of Europe are in a commanding position.

After the match, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was asked if he feels as if the tie is "still alive" and he issued a brutal five-word response, saying: "No, not at the moment." This has been somewhat backed up by the supercomputer that gives the Blues just a 10 per cent chance of progressing into the last four.

To make the final of the competition for the second year running, Chelsea have been given a 3 per cent chance and to retain their European crown, there's a 1 per cent chance. The Blues have it all to do next week at the Santiago Bernabeu, there's no doubt about that, but stranger things have happened in the Champions League.

Tuchel was pressed further on why he thinks his side don't have much of a chance in the second-leg. The German explained: "We have to find our level back. I don't know where it is since the international break.

"The first-half is a repetition of the second-half against Brentford in a quarter-final against Real Madrid. So far off our level in absolutely everything the game demands, we can't expect a result from this kind of performance.

"We have to get things ready for Saturday. Not think about the Bernabeu today. Saturday we face Southampton and if we continue to play like this, we will not get a point."
