Thomas Tuchel pinpoints Chelsea regret after Real Madrid draw as Frank Lampard proven wrong

Here is your Chelsea morning digest on Wednesday, April 28.

Pulisic shines for Blues in semi-final draw

Christian Pulisic was perhaps Chelsea's standout star for their Champions League semi-final first-leg against Real Madrid.

The Blues went ahead early on through Pulisic, who scored with a fantastic solo effort to hand the visitors a crucial away goal.

The USA winger received an 8/10 from football.london for his display in the Spanish capital, but his forward partner Timo Werner did not impress as much.

After spurning a massive chance in the opening stages of the match, Werner failed to make his mark on the first-leg.

Chelsea stars have proven Lampard wrong

Just days before his sacking, Frank Lampard made a bold claim after being humbled by Leicester City.

The former Chelsea boss said: "It is not a club ready to compete. It's just a fact of where we are as a club for sure."

Lampard could perhaps have been forgiven at the time for believing that, but ever since Thomas Tuchel arrived to replace the Blues legend, things have taken off at Stamford Bridge.

Tuesday evening's superb performance against Real Madrid proves just that, with the west London side producing an extremely professional and mature display against the club with the most European Cups to their name.

Tuchel pinpoints Chelsea regret

Tuchel has admitted his regret at Chelsea's failure to go into the half-time break with a 1-0 lead against Real Madrid on Tuesday.

The Blues took an early lead, but conceded to Benzema 's wonderful strike just moments before the players headed down the tunnel at Madrid's training complex.

Speaking after the game, this is something Tuchel acknowledged was costly.

"I think we started the game very, very well," the Chelsea boss told BT Sport.

"We were very aggressive with a lot of courage and a lot of quality. I think we deserved to win the first half, for me.

"We had a lot of chances, we had a lot of chances where we missed precision in the last ball.

"We then had more opportunities to score. Unfortunately, they scored from a set-piece and nothing else.

"There was nothing else to defend for us, we did not allow any chances.

"So it was a bit of a disappointing result at half-time. It was important that we stayed calm and didn't lose confidence."
