Thomas Tuchel names player who gives Liverpool advantage over Chelsea

Chelsea's Premier League pursuit of Liverpool has just become a lot tougher thanks to one man, according to Thomas Tuchel.

The European Champions recently added the World Club Championship to their trophy cabinet but are only third in the Premier League table, trailing the Reds and leaders Manchester City.

Expectations at Stamford Bridge under owner Roman Abramovic are always sky high, but former PSG and Borussia Dortmund boss Tuchel believes the arrival of Luis Diaz at Anfield only reduces Chelsea's chances of gaining ground.

Speaking after his side's 1-0 win against Crystal Palace on Saturday, he said: "They look very strong. It’s what it is.

"They have [signed] a huge player in the winter to make their squad stronger and it’s how it is. I will not give in and tell you today that it’s not possible to catch them.

"There is no other way than to improve our game, improve our style, and to win game after game after game.

"There is no need to look at Liverpool, Man City or behind. We have enough to deal with and enough to improve. From there we start."

Diaz has already proved his value to Jurgen Klopp's side, scoring his first goal for the club today in a 3-1 win against Norwich City.

And the Premier League title race was flown wide open on Saturday evening, with Tottenham Hotspur pulling off a dramatic 3-2 victory against City at the Etihad.

It means that Liverpool remain six points behind the league-leaders but can cut the deficit to just three points should they win their game in hand against Leeds United on Wednesday.

Chelsea are seven points behind Liverpool, having played the same amount of games, and 13 behind City, who have played a game more.
