Thomas Tuchel must deal with two key Bayern obstacles before making Mason Mount Chelsea decision

Chelsea star Mason Mount saw another club emerge on his potential list of summer transfer suitors after Thomas Tuchel became the new manager at Bayern Munich. The former Blues head coach has been out of work since he was let go from his role in west London last September, but after a six-month break he will now take charge of another of his former clubs' biggest rivals.

Prior to his reign in France at Paris Saint-Germain, Tuchel managed in his home country of Germany for a decade taking charge of FC Augsburg II, Mainz and finally Borussia Dortmund. Tuchel won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021 after being appointed mid-season and he will be hoping for a repeat of that success at Bayern.

The 49-year-old has already confirmed his desire to poach one key asset to Chelsea in the form of assistant coach Anthony Barry. The Blues were said to be disappointed by Tuchel's public approach, but it looks likely Barry will be reunited with Tuchel after the latest development revealed he has agreed to stay away from Chelsea's training ground while negotiations take place.

It is highly unlikely that Barry will be the only Chelsea representative Tuchel shows interest in. The contract situations of Mateo Kovacic and Mason Mount are likely of intrigue to their ex-boss especially given Todd Boehly's stance on extensions after the club lost both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen on free transfers at the end of last season.

Mount is expected to have a number of potential exit destinations if he does opt to depart Chelsea, with Liverpool seemingly at the top of the list. A source has told football.london that the Reds are seriously interested in the England international and are preparing to make a move for the midfielder in the summer should the situation remain unsolved.

Bayern could yet persuade Mount to make the move to Germany using Tuchel and the success of Jamal Musiala - a former Cobham academy graduate - as their two main factors in convincing the England international. However, Tuchel faces two key obstacles before a decision is made on Mount in Bavaria.

According to Bild's Christian Falk, Tuchel wants to assess the options he already has in his current squad, while it is also noted that players would have to leave the club for new signings to be agreed.
