Thomas Tuchel missed the mark by not starting key men that made the difference in trophy win

Chelsea lost their first game of the season, with a 1-0 defeat at home to reigning Premier League champions, Manchester City.

Gabriel Jesus broke the deadlock, with Romelu Lukaku getting the ball in the net but a clear offside ruled out the goal. CarefreeChelsea and City Is Ours team members, Anita Abayomi (AA), Jai Mcintosh (JM) and Dom Farrell (DF) discusses Thomas Tuchels misfire on not starting Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell. Watch the stream

Here's a brief look at their conversation on Kai Havertz…

AA: “If Havertz played from the start City don’t come out as much as they did in the first half do you get what I’m saying? Obviously, Havertz can be pressed, he can easily lose the ball. But, City will have that little bit of consciousness saying ‘okay, this guy can cause some problems in behind Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner’.

“It would have made City a little more conservative as opposed to…”

DF: “You’ve got Werner and Lukaku who are guys with loads of ability but you’ve got a big strong striker and a little, quick striker that runs behind. But, do like striker centre-forward things. Ruben Dias loves that.

“Ruben Dias will shove over a guy running over him go chase Lukaku all day long. Kai Havertz does things that Ruben Dias doesn’t want to deal with. So, it’s that sort of game the problems Rudiger and Christensen had at times today.

“De Bruyne, Foden and Bernado Silva take them in Area’s they don’t want to go in. If I started Ferran Torres, Toni Rudiger is going to pack him up, steal his lunch money and that’s that. That’s not doing down Ferran Torres, he’s going to be a really good forward. But, you’ve got to make your opposition uncomfortable. City got comfortable really early in the game.

“Tuchel’s selection let him do that, I think.”

On Ben Chilwell…

AA: ”I would give an arm and a leg to see Ben Chilwell come in. Don’t get me wrong Alonso has been good for us. But, we look at this match and it was kind of anticipated from Chelsea that Alonso is not good enough to play this kind of high-intensity match again a man city side that are pressing so well.

“Let’s just give Chilwell a couple of games - a run of games. Because I need that stability back. Our back three just didn’t look the same especially with Marcos Alonso being there. I don’t want to see this 3-5-2 formation again.

“Unless the three midfield includes Ruben Loftus-Cheek starts whose ability to drive the ball forward. We know how Ruben Loftus-Cheek started off, he’s a creative player he knows how to mix that number ten and number eight role together. He’s so creative.”
