Thomas Tuchel makes Paris Saint-Germain injuries claim ahead of Manchester United game

Paris Saint-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel has claimed the French champions may only have 11 players available to face Manchester United in the Champions League next week.

Both teams kick off their group stage fixtures on October 20 at the Parc des Princes, the stadium where United famously knocked out the Ligue 1 side back in 2019 thanks to Marcus Rashford's penalty.

RB Leipzig and Istanbul Basaksehir have also been drawn in their group for this season's competition and many consider United's draw to be the toughest available.

PSG were beaten by Bayern Munich in last season's final and are expected to be contenders for the trophy again.

Tuchel's side faces Nimes on Saturday before welcoming United to Paris and the PSG manager believes he could only have 11 players available due to the strains of the international break.

"We have to take responsibility for Neymar and Kylian [Mbappe], who played almost 90 minutes yesterday, and the South Americans who have travelled a lot," he said at his pre-match press conference.

"Maybe we will only have 11, 12 or 13 players available.

"We have a bit of bad luck. [Julian] Draxler and Marquinhos are doubtful for Manchester too. Colin Dagba had a positive [coronavirus test] with the U21s. In the event of a negative test, he can return to the group.

"Thilo Kehrer is injured for a few weeks. [Juan] Bernat and [Mauro] Icardi are injured, Icardi, a week ago. It's the internal ligament in the knee, it's not too serious but he will miss Nimes and Manchester.

"Today we have Danilo [Pereira] back, but he has been in contact with Cristiano Ronaldo, so the medical staff wish he did not train with the group. [Marco] Verratti was injured with Italy, and is in contact with our doctor now.

"We are missing too many players. It is the challenge now to find a starting XI able to win [against Nimes], because that is the best preparation for Manchester."

United could hand a debut to former PSG striker Edinson Cavani during the Champions League clash after confirming he is unavailable to face Newcastle due to self-isolation COVID-19 guidelines.
