Thomas Tuchel makes brutal Callum Hudson-Odoi decision during Southampton vs Chelsea

Thomas Tuchel made a brutal decision during the second half of Chelsea’s Premier League clash with Southampton in the search for a winning goal.

The Blues head coach had brought on Callum Hudson-Odoi with the Blues a goal down at the break after Takumi Minamino’s fine finish had put the hosts ahead.

The winger, who didn’t have the best of cameos to say the least, was then hauled off with 16 minutes to go by Tuchel as the German brought on Hakim Ziyech for the final quarter of an hour.

Hudson-Odoi didn’t appear to be injured and the TV cameras caught the England international trudging up the stairs at St Mary’s and going back to his seat while he was not given any treatment.

Seemingly Hudson-Odoi was not injured so Tuchel will no doubt be asked about his decision to substitute the substitute at his post-match press conference.

The winger has been one of the big success stories of Tuchel's reign in west London so far, playing as both a right wing-back and winger as the German steered the side to six games unbeaten and five straight wins.

On the pitch, Mason Mount levelled things up ten minutes after half time from the penalty spot when he was on the receiving end of a striker’s tackle from Danny Ings in the box, stepping up to dispatch confidently past Alex McCarthy.

Bit it was a frustrating one for the Blues as they dominated plenty of the ball but lacked a cutting edge in the final third, with far too many wayward passes in attacking positions.

Tuchel had made a couple of changes to his starting eleven for the game as N'Golo Kante and Kurt Zouma both started for the first time since he replaced Frank Lampard, while Edouard Mendy also returned in goal to replace Kepa, who had kept a clean sheet against Newcastle.
