Thomas Tuchel has taught Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a valuable Cristiano Ronaldo lesson at Man United

Frank Lampard was presented with a wealth of offensive options at Chelsea last season, after his club signed the likes of Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz in the summer.

The Blues legend tried to maximise their potential by opting for a series of different line-ups in the Premier League, but he was ultimately replaced by Thomas Tuchel in January.

Since, Chelsea have lifted the Champions League trophy as well as progressing to a new level on the pitch, with the German coach prioritising balance over attack unlike Lampard.

Despite the wealth of attacking players available to Tuchel, he has settled upon a 3-4-3 formation which allows for just three of those players to take to the field at a time.

Big-name players have had to occupy the bench at times, but the results delivered throughout Tuchel's reign have justified his decisions.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer currently finds himself in a similar predicament to Lampard after Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo arrived at Manchester United in the summer, and he could benefit from following the path that Tuchel paved at Chelsea.

The Red Devils have lost four of their last seven matches in all competitions, with Solskjaer attempting to squeeze in each of his most creative players at once.

Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford have joined Ronaldo and Sancho on the pitch, but it has proved to be too much on the attacking side of the game.

"We are conceding easy, stupid goals. We need to find the right tactic, stick with it and resolve the issue," said Pogba after United's recent 4-2 loss against Leicester City.

It remains to be seen how Solskjaer will solve the matter at hand, but Tuchel's back three shape could be an interesting option to explore once Raphael Varane returns to full fitness.

He has ensured that Chelsea are stable as a team by getting the balance right in attack, midfield and defence, which appears to be difficult to achieve based on Solskjaer's current issues as well as Lampard's downfall.

Ultimately, Tuchel found the equilibrium at Stamford Bridge and that is what the United legend must find if he's to remain in competition with the German at the top of the Premier League.
