Thomas Tuchel has finally unlocked hidden Chelsea weapon first found by Frank Lampard

Ben Chilwell has found his goalscoring form from left-back.

The 24-year-old has struggled for minutes at Stamford Bridge so far this campaign after losing his place in Chelsea's starting line-up to Marcos Alonso.

However, Thomas Tuchel recalled the England defender to the starting line-up in Chelsea’s win over Southampton before the international break, and he didn’t disappoint after he scored an 89th minute goal to secure a 3-1 win for the Blues – a victory that saw them head to the top of the Premier League.

Signed for £50million back when Frank Lampard was Chelsea’s head coach, Chilwell quickly turned into a fans favourite in west London.

He became an important player for Tuchel last season too and helped the Blues on their way to victory in the Champions League.

Although he showed exactly what he can do defensively in that successful European run, he’s also displayed moments of impressive attacking instinct that’ll help Chelsea in the long-term.

Chilwell added another goal to his career tally on Saturday night too, smashing home a cushioned pass from Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho into an empty net to give England the lead against Andorra.

His form suggests that Chelsea may’ve finally unlocked a hidden attacking weapon, something that Lampard tried to achieve when he was in charge at the club.

"The manager [Lampard] and the coaching staff are always telling me to get in at the back post and get up there and score more goals and get more assists," Chilwell told Chelsea’s website, whilst Lampard was still the Blues’ boss.

"I can’t be happy just to put crosses in, but want to score and get more assists. I have tried to add that to my game this season."

Tuchel will be hoping he can keep getting into good positions in the near future, as a few finishes from the full-back position will add another dimension to Chelsea’s play in front of goal.
