Thomas Tuchel has discovered Chelsea's new undroppable as Roman Abramovich eyes Lukaku transfer

Here are your Chelsea morning headlines for Thursday, April 8.

Mount delivers the goods

Chelsea took a giant stride towards the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League last night with a 2-0 win over Portuguese outfit FC Porto in the first-leg of their quarter-final in Spain.

Goals either side of half-time from Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell sealed the victory for Thomas Tuchel's side, ensuring the German saw his side deliver the perfect response following Saturday's 5-2 defeat to West Bromwich Albion.

Whilst it was not the most vintage and lucrative Chelsea performance we have been treated to under Tuchel, it was a display that provided plenty of character and belief, moving the club closer and closer to the last-four of the Champions League in the process.

Whilst everyone within the team played their part, it was Mount that stood up tall and acted as the go-to man, scoring his maiden goal in the Champions League. He came out on top in our player ratings but how did the rest of his team-mates get on?

Chelsea eye Lukaku swoop

Chelsea have already decided on their transfer alternative to Erling Haaland.

The Borussia Dortmund superstar is highly sought after ahead of the summer with the Blues in competition with the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Manchester United for the striker's signature.

With Dortmund reportedly valuing Haaland as high as £150million, it might come down to who can afford the Norwegian, especially given the financial struggle due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

But while Chelsea may have as good a chance as anyone in affording Haaland, the size of the other clubs involved might just mean they miss out on their prime target this summer.

And if that happens, it seems the Blues could turn to familiar ground with Calcio Mercato reporting Romelu Lukaku is the undoubted second choice for Chelsea.

The report claims Roman Abramovich and Chelsea are ready to take 'concrete action' on their former striker with a bid of more than €100million (£86m) this summer.

Lukaku spent three years at Stamford Bridge between 2011 and 2014 before he was sold to Everton for around £28million, a club-record fee for the Toffees at the time.

Jorginho discusses his future

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho appears to be going nowhere after becoming a favourite under Tuchel.

The Italy international was linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge during Frank Lampard's reign as he was often in and out of the Chelsea squad.

But since Tuchel 's arrival in late-January, Jorginho has been a stalwart, starting 11 of the 16 games the German head coach has taken charge of so far.

And that is, perhaps, why Jorginho is so happy at Chelsea, recently dismissing talk of a move away from Stamford Bridge and asserting that this season has his full focus.

“Dude, I’ll tell you the truth. At the moment, how am I going to think about the future two years from now, having what I still have to play this season. Then the Euro is coming,” Jorginho told TNT Sports.

“So, honestly, there’s no way to think ahead. In fact, I’m very happy here. I’m really happy here. So I don’t think about anything else either. Now, at the moment, there’s no reason to think about what will happen in two years, for example.”
