Thomas Tuchel has already told Chelsea Thiago Silva's best qualities as transfer edges closer

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard is edging closer towards strengthening his central-defensive options with the addition of outgoing Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva.

The Brazil international played his final game for the French club on Sunday evening as they were beaten 1-0 in the Uefa Champions League final by Bayern Munich in Lisbon, with Kingsley Coman heading home the only goal of an entertaining encounter.

And it appears as though Silva will soon be playing in the Premier League as his next venture in his rich and colourful history, with Chelsea closing in on his signature.

According to a report by The Athletic, the Blues, who will kick-off their 2020/21 Premier League campaign three weeks tonight against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium, are in advanced talks to sign the Brazilian international.

Though Silva is not likely to be a long-term fix for Lampard's defensive woes, with the former AC Milan star now at the age of 35-years-old, he will offer a wealth of experience and professionalism to Chelsea's defensive-line.

And it is the defender's professionalism that was previously lavished with praise by PSG boss Thomas Tuchel, who cut a disappointed figure after losing Sunday evening's clash with Bayern Munich.

Back in June, Tuchel, as quoted by Kenyan News, said: "From the first day, it was a pleasure to work with him, and that will not change. He is super professional, he is still our captain and will be until the end.

"These are super difficult decisions, with various opinions. Thiago is not an ordinary player, we have a great relationship.

"He is super reliable every day and together and we can still win three titles in five games with him."

With that verdict having been issued by Tuchel, adding Silva to his squad could be a big plus point in so many ways for Lampard, as he will not only add experience to his defence, but he will also act as a role-model for the younger players within the squad.
