Thomas Tuchel has already delivered his verdict on Antoine Griezmann amid talk of Chelsea offer

Antoine Griezmann has emerged as a potential alternative to Erling Haaland for Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

football.london understands that Blues head coach Thomas Tuchel is interested in signing a defender, a midfielder and a striker before deadline day as he seeks to compete for the Premier League title in the upcoming season.

Top of the list for strikers is the Borussia Dortmund star who scored 41 goals in as many appearances across all competitions last season.

However, with the Bundesliga side reportedly demanding north of £100m to even consider selling Haaland this summer, Chelsea may have to look elsewhere to bolster their attacking options.

As a result, links to Griezmann just might come in handy.

According to the Daily Star, Barcelona are ready to offer the Frenchman to a number of Europe's elite clubs - including Chelsea - in their attempts to trim their wage bill to re-sign Lionel Messi.

The Argentina captain, at present, is technically a free agent after his contract at the Camp Nou expired at the end of last month.

Although, he reportedly wants to stay at Barcelona.

But at the moment he is unable to sign his newly agreed deal under strict La Liga salary cap rules - which could prompt Barcelona to show Griezmann the door.

Interestingly, this is not the first time Tuchel has been tipped to manage Griezmann.

Back in the summer of 2019 whilst at Paris Saint-Germain, there was talk of the Frenchman joining the Ligue 1 giants after announcing his decision to leave Atletico Madrid.

And whilst Tuchel was clearly a fan of the 30-year-old at the time, PSG didn't make a move for him as there were other areas in the squad that needed addressing.

"Griezmann can play with every team in the world. It would please any coach, but right now it's not realistic [for PSG]," Tuchel told reporters. "We are looking for players with certain profiles; it must be realistic.

"We need defensive profiles, and we have to start with that."

One could argue that things have come full circle for Tuchel in that he needs attacking profiles if Chelsea are to be realistic challengers to Man City, Liverpool and Man United for the Premier League title.

So will it be second time lucky for the German and Griezmann?
