Thomas Tuchel gives blunt response to Erling Haaland question as Man City transfer confirmed

Thomas Tuchel was not in the mood to pass on any advice to Erling Haaland ahead of his move to Manchester City.

The Blues confirmed the signing of Haaland on Tuesday following months of speculation surrounding the Borussia Dortmund superstar. Some of Europe’s top clubs have been in the running for the 21-year-old’s signature, with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester United all being linked over the past year.

It’s City though that have won the race for one of the world’s hottest footballing properties. The Manchester Evening News understands Haaland has been picked up for around £51million, around £13m cheaper than the £64m release fee that has been widely touted.

City confirmed they had reached an agreement with Dortmund, with Haaland set to complete his move to the Etihad on July 1 “subject to the club finalising terms with the player”. The Norway international is expected to join the top bracket of earners at City, alongside Kevin De Bruyne on around £400,000.

The deal sees City complete one of the biggest coups in years, with Haaland seen by many as the final piece of the puzzle for Pep Guardiola. Former Dortmund boss Tuchel, though, wasn’t in the mood to give the striker a helping hand ahead of his arrival this summer.

“Me? Giving advice to Haaland? No advice,” the Chelsea boss said when asked before the confirmation of Haaland’s signing.

“First of all, it’s not sure. Second of all, if he does not play for us I will not give any advice.”

Tuchel’s response will likely mirror those of City’s other rivals, with Haaland’s signing a huge boost for the Premier League leaders. The Norway international has scored 85 times in 89 appearances during his time in Germany, having first caught the eye at RB Salzburg, and will be looking to continue his extraordinary goal-scoring exploits at the Etihad from next season.
