Thomas Tuchel gives Andreas Christensen verdict after Liverpool performance

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has praised ‘super talented’ Andreas Christensen for his eye-catching performance against Liverpool.

The Danish centre-back produced an excellent display on Saturday evening at Anfield, playing a key role as the Blues secured a hard-earned point after being reduced to 10 men following Reece James’ first-half red card.

The draw ensured that Chelsea continued their unbeaten start to the season but it certainly would not have been possible had the Blues not turned in a determined and disciplined defensive showing.

At the heart of that was Christensen, who appears to have established himself as one of the first-choice centre backs at Stamford Bridge in the opening weeks of the season.

Tuchel reserved special praise for the Dane following the match.

Talking in his post-game press conference, the German said: “Andreas has been very strong for us from day one. He started in the central position and finished the game in the right position, because we decided to bring on Thiago Silva and stay with the back five.

“Andreas is very strong, he’s super talented. He loves Chelsea, he’s a Chelsea boy from the academy, this has a huge impact in the moment.

“I think he feels the trust, he knows what to do, he can absolutely help, he’s a top defender and a top guy.

“I have the feeling he’s growing every week in confidence and personality, which is good and he’s doing fantastic since day one and getting better and better.”

Whilst Tuchel has appeared to have put faith in Christensen, one of his centre-back options has been let go, with Kurt Zouma having been allowed to join Premier League rivals West Ham United.
