Thomas Tuchel finds N'Golo Kante successor as £76m transfer decision hints Chelsea January plans

Welcome to our football .london CareFree Chelsea daily news round-up. Maybe not the first, we've definitely done transfer round-ups before, and European round-ups, so I guess in some ways it's not that new at all.

Anyway, we thought we would enter the world of football in a broad and roundabout manner for you and have some fun with some of the stories and captions doing the daily rounds.

Former Blue back in blue

Former Chelsea assistant manager and player Jody Morris is the current frontrunner for the vacant Cardiff City managerial position, according to BetVictor.

Morris served alongside Frank Lampard at both Chelsea and Derby County and is currently the 2/1 favourite to take the helm at Cardiff.

However, while his former positions pose as attractive credentials, Morris won a domestic double with the Chelsea under-18s in 2016/17 before going on to wrap up the quadruple the following season.

Our view: I'd love to see Morris back in management, especially as a head coach rather than an assistant. He did a superb job leading various age groups at Cobham before finding his breakthrough under Frank Lampard's wing at Derby County.

A lot of me thinks that Morris was the driving force behind Lampard's success, having had a lot more experience in a coaching capacity.

I think Morris would do a great job wherever he goes - he's a serial winner. But, what interests me is that these odds hint at Lampard's future; if Lampard does return to coaching who would his new assistant be?

Chelsea plot £17m Rudiger replacement

Chelsea have joined the race to sign Fenerbahce's Attila Szalai but face stern competition from Atletico Madrid, West Ham and Leicester City, according to The Sun via Fichajes.

The 23-year-old centre-half impressed at Euro 2020 for Hungary and he continued in the same vein of form this season for the Turkish outfit.

Fenerbahce have given Szalai a €20 million (around £17m) price tag for his recent efforts and the west Londoners may be ready to proceed with a deal as soon as January, according to the report.

The report claims that Chelsea is eying a winter pursuit for the left-footed defender following the extent to which talks are taking place between the club and Antonio Rudiger over a new contract.

Our view: Personally, I haven't heard much about Szalai and I can't say I'm entirely convinced by the Hungarian defender nor the links.

Whilst I will happily be proven wrong, I could see this transfer as just being a 'cop out' move to save money as opposed to either renewing Rudiger's deal or investing properly for the future.

Tuchel eyes January solution to Kante saga

Thomas Tuchel wants to bolster his midfield options in the January transfer window and has eyed Real Madrid Fede Valverde, according to Catalan outlet El Nacional.

The report claims that Tuchel is a fan of the 23-year-old midfielder, who is valued at £58.5 million by Transfermarkt, and attempted to sign the Uruguayan in the summer.

However, the report adds that Valverde isn't even going to entertain the idea of swapping the Santiago Bernabeu for Stamford Bridge because he is content in the Spanish capital.

Our view: Valverde would be an excellent addition to Chelsea's midfield, I think that he'd be central to the Blues' next era of success at Stamford Bridge and more importantly a very good successor to N'Golo Kante one day.

His mentality is Rudiger-esque; look up Valverde, Morata tackle on Youtube, incredible.

But, saying that, it's always going to be hard to prise a player away from Real Madrid - Marina Granovskaia did so with Mateo Kovacic, so why not Valverde?
