Thomas Tuchel facing crucial decision over 7 Chelsea stars as part of summer rebuild

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is set for a squad revamp in the summer, and is expected to use the transfer window to fine tune his playing squad ahead of his first full season at the helm.

The Blues have been solid since his arrival in January, and are still yet to lose under his leadership.

Tuchel has tweaked Chelsea's playing style and now plays with wing-backs in a five-man defence, and has recently started to use record signing Kai Havertz in a false nine position.

Chelsea were ruthless last summer as they signed Havertz in a £250million spending spree, but are expected to focus more on outgoings this year.

According to The Telegraph, Tuchel will have free rein to decide the futures of seven first-team players.

Some are out of contract in a year, others are set to become free agents at the end of the current season, and some have been linked with moves away.

Firstly, Thiago Silva will become a free agent despite only signing last year. Chelsea have been in talks to extend his contract, and are expected to do so.

But fellow centre-backs Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta are all out of contract.

The Blues are said to be in the mix for Bayern Munich's David Alaba, and it isn't out of the question that one defender could be sold to make way.

Rudiger was the subject of interest from afar last summer, but has become a key figure under Tuchel.

Olivier Giroud could also depart, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

The French veteran seemed destined to leave in the 2020 January window, but eventually shone and signed a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

He has continued to impress this season, and it remains possible that Chelsea will extend his contract again.

However, with the Blues on the hunt for a new centre-forward, neither his or Tammy Abraham's futures are certain.

N'Golo Kante's future is still up in the air as well, despite his recent improvement in form.

The French midfielder has been tentatively linked with a move away, having ben wanted by Inter Milan last year, and it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will cash in.
