Thomas Tuchel explains Chelsea academy dream after graduates star in Norwich City win

Chelsea’s academy graduates Mason Mount, Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi all found the net against Norwich City on Saturday.

The Blues went onto win the clash 7-0, a victory that sees them top the Premier League table for another week.

To add to the good news, Mount netted his first Blues hat-trick too, whilst other Cobham graduates, Trevoh Chalobah and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, also featured as Thomas Tuchel’s team dominated the Canaries.

As five ex-academy stars were utilised, Tuchel was inevitably asked what he thinks about the academy in his post-game press conference.

“It is (a dream),” he said.

“It is as easy as that, it is full of quality coaches and quality leaders and the guys who come from the academy onto our pitch are all of the same, made from the same spirit, same attitude, humble guys, who know what it is to play for Chelsea, know what it takes to be serious, to be humble, and there is no problem in being a nice guy and still playing a hard match of football and a serious match of football.”

Tuchel continued by explaining that the quality he has in his squad, in addition to the help his side gets from fans inside Stamford Bridge, helps his team to perform on matchdays.

“This is what we have. It is a pleasure to work for Chelsea and it is a pleasure to have that mix to work with the best players of the world and from all countries and to mix it with academy players.

“That makes things special and it creates a certain energy and atmosphere for the spectators in the stadium, which makes the thing special and this is what we want and we will always try to push guys through.

“But in the end, let’s be honest, it is a matter of quality and not where you come from. It is like this on the highest level.”

Chelsea face Southampton in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday before travelling to newly taken over Newcastle at the weekend.
