Thomas Tuchel has revealed his plan for Billy Gilmour, who had a transfer away blocked in the January transfer window.
Chelsea are set to face Barnsley tonight in the FA Cup and a number of fringe players are set to appear.
Kepa Arrizabalaga will be given another chance between the posts while Gilmour will also be given a starting spot.
The Scotsman is on the brink of breaking into the first-team but Tuchel has a preferred combination of Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic.
Add N'Golo Kante into the mix and Gilmour has found game-time hard to come by in the last few months.
He has made just two appearances in the Premier League and January was a chance to leave and garner more first-team experience somewhere else.
With Frank Lampard at the helm, there were plans afoot to loan him out - with Southampton and Newcastle interested.
But after Tuchel was appointed, the German did not want to lose any players as he tries to engineer a way to get Chelsea back into the top four.
It meant Gilmour ended up staying and he now must fight for a spot in the first-team with three seasoned internationals.
And Tuchel has revealed his plan for the 19-year-old, insisting that his time will come.
“For me he represents everything a young guy from the academy should represent,” he said.
“He is humble. I feel that he is happy to be here. That he is living his dream and that he is ready to give everything to fulfil his dream.
“He gives me the exact right feeling. The exact perfect mix between being humble and being impatient and trying every training session to improve, to learn and not show too much respect.
“We have a strong midfield and right now he is one of four players for central midfield. The other three players are (Mateo) Kovacic, Jorginho and N’Golo Kante.
“That makes it not easy for Billy to find his place, but he is the No. 4 right now in my head and to be the No4 out of two positions is a pretty good start for Billy.
“I wanted him absolutely to stay because he has a big impact in training games and his quality is obvious.
"We are happy to have him and are absolutely ready to push him and help him on his way.”
