Thomas Tuchel delivers injury update on Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Thiago Silva

Thomas Tuchel says Timo Werner will be fit for Chelsea's clash with Newcastle United on Monday night but Kai Havertz is a doubt for the game and Thiago Silva is ruled out.

Werner was absent from Chelsea's victory over Barnsley last night as he was recovering from a dead leg suffered against Sheffield United.

The German forward has trained with the Blues this week but Tuchel felt it would've been too big a risk for him to play at Oakwell.

Werner should, however, be ready to take on Steve Bruce's side at Stamford Bridge.

"It's Friday and we do still have three training sessions, but It should be absolutely ok for Timo Werner to come back," Tuchel said at his pre-match press conference this morning

Thiago Silva suffered a thigh injury in the victory over Tottenham and has missed Chelsea's last two matches.

The Brazilian is working hard on his recovery at Cobham but Tuchel has ruled him out of Monday night's game.

"For Thiago, we are aiming for Southampton. We are trying hard and let's see if we make it. We are trying hard."

Havertz, meanwhile, suffered an injury in training last week and hasn't been included in the match-day squads to face Tottenham, Sheffield United and Barnsley.

The exact issue the German is nursing hasn't been disclosed and Tuchel is unsure if he'll be fit to take on the Magpies.

"Let's see if he's out [training] today. It would only be a short time for Kai so maybe he will be missing this match as well."

Andreas Christensen was brought off at half time of the win over Barnsley last night having taken a blow to the head.

Tuchel said after the game the Dane was suffering from a headache after the incident but he confirmed this morning Christensen hadn't suffered a concussion and should be fit come Monday night.
