Thomas Tuchel decides on first three transfers as key change is introduced in Chelsea training

Here is your Chelsea morning digest for Saturday, January 30.

Tuchel eyes triple swoop

The end of this month's January transfer window is set to be quiet at Stamford Bridge with no new arrivals expected before Monday's deadline.

However, Chelsea could be busy once again come the summer, with Thomas Tuchel, who was appointed as Frank Lampard's successor on Tuesday, poised to want to put his own stamp of authority on his squad.

Although the summer window is still several months away, the German has already started putting plans in place, with a raid on the Bundesliga looking likely.

It is reported that RB Leipzig ace Dayot Upamecano, David Alaba of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland are all on his radar.

Thomas Tuchel: We 'will not hesitate' if right player arises

All three players had been linked with moves to Chelsea prior to Tuchel's arrival, but his previous connections with German football could hand the Blues an advantage in their race to seal their signatures.

Tuchel introduces new training plans

Ahead of Sunday's tussle with Burnley at Stamford Bridge, Tuchel has continued to get to know his new players at the club's Cobham training ground.

After spending a brief period of time with them on Tuesday evening ahead of Wednesday night's goalless draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Tuchel had the opportunity to spend both Thursday and Friday with his players, as he continued to get know both their personalities and their footballing talents.

On Friday, it was spotted that the German, formerly of Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain, had implemented a new philosophy, which featured mini footballs.

It appears as though Tuchel has put this plan in place to try and improve his side's ball retention, with high levels of possession likely to be a regular theme under his stewardship.

Azpilicueta makes Tuchel admission

Spanish defender Cesar Azpilicueta has admitted that Tuchel is "very happy" to have been handed the chance to take over at Stamford Bridge and manage a "talented group" of players.

Tuchel was installed as the club's new head coach on Tuesday following Frank Lampard's dismissal after a run of five defeats in eight league games.

“Since he arrived, he made it clear what he wanted from us,” Azpilicueta told Chelsea’s official website.

“He said that he was very happy to manage this group of talented players, experienced players.

“We have a good mix of everything and he wanted to achieve the targets that we want, to do it all together.

“We are halfway through the season, we still have lots to play for and we have our objectives, and we know playing for this club always requires high standards every single day.”
