Mason Mount has been left out of Chelsea’s matchday squad for the Premier League clash against Newcastle today due to illness.
The midfielder was expected to start against the Magpies after netting a hat-trick against Norwich City last weekend but has not been named on Thomas Tuchel’s team sheet.
football.london understands the midfielder has been left out due to illness, and Tuchel confirmed the news to the 5th Stand before the Newcastle clash.
The German said: "He should have started but he got ill overnight and so we sent him home to London so that we can take care of him better and that he can recover better.”
Mount, 22, has been a key player for Chelsea this season, having scored three and assisted two in just seven league appearances.
His absence will come as a blow to Tuchel, whose forward options are already limited thanks to long-term injuries to Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner.
Chelsea currently sit at the top of the table and will be expecting to beat a Newcastle side that is yet to win a game this season.
