Thomas Tuchel could replace Frank Lampard as Chelsea manager if their poor form continues according to reports.
The German was sacked as manager of PSG last week just four months after guiding them to the Champions League final.
Tuchel was in charge for two-and-a-half years but is now on the market having agreed his compensation package with the Parisians.
That news is anything but timely for the Blues boss who has seen his side lost three of their last four Premier League games.
As a result they have lost touch with the teams at the top and there is pressure to deliver following heavy summer invesment.
Over £200m was spent on the likes of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.
But Roman Abramovich is not known for his patience and will consider sacking Lampard should they lose to Aston Villa, reports Bild.
That would be Chelsea's fourth defeat in five league games with their record against the top half teams particularly poor.
Tuchel's presence will begin to loom large with the German previously linked with Arsenal.
He has expressed a desire to work in the Premier League having also impressed during his time at Borussia Dortmund.
Chelsea's latest defeat came at London rivals Arsenal, who hadn't won for almost three months.
The west Londoners put in a limp performance and Lampard did not hide his frustrations at a missed chance.
He said: "Yeah I’m angry because I want us to win games and today was an opportunity to go second at a place where they’re having a tough time, and we know how that goes.
"You either make it more difficult for them or you give them a little opening, a crack, and we did that from minute one and continued to do it for 45 minutes.
"And you get what you deserve. Lazy to give away a penalty. Lazy in terms of giving away a free-kick that he [Xhaka] puts in the top corner.
"I’m very, very disappointed in the way we approached the first half, because some things in football are basics."
