Thomas Tuchel could repeat PSG transfer trick at Chelsea to solve £104m problem in January

Thomas Tuchel's history has already hinted at his next signing at Chelsea after conceding three or more goals in successive games for the first time since April 2019.

Year on year, the west London side are tasked with the unpredictable challenge on weathering the December storm and, while the Blues boss may have already been hit with a gale force wind, he has already shown how he'll pull through at the other end.

The German boss' defensive record are always been the backbone to his success, whether it be winning the DFB Pokal against the odds with Borussia Dortmund, leading Paris Saint-Germain to the domestic quadruple or winning the Champions League with Chelsea.

So, when the boat rocks and water splashes above board, Tuchel reads the previous chapter of his book again to remind himself of the pillars to his former success.

The boat doesn't rock too often when the German's at the wheel but there's a pattern to the stress signals follow when it does.

Just over two years ago Tuchel saw his PSG side concede three or more goals in successive ties and the German, unhappy with the defensive display on show proceeded to spend big on reinforcements in the next window.

The Chelsea boss went on to sign centre-half Abdou Diallo from his former side Dortmund for £28.8 million and holding midfielder Idrissa Gueye for £27 million, among others too.

Diallo transformed Tuchel's fortunes and went on to keep six clean sheets in PSG's opening ten Ligue 1 clashes.

While the Blues will have likely already placed an emphasis on making acquisitions in either of the aforementioned positions due to the club's current climate, Tuchel's history with how he responds to heavy defeats could see Marina Granovskaia hold a magnifying glass over Les Parc des Princes.

In October, PSG defender Marquinhos revealed that Chelsea were interested in signing him over the summer, but that the French club put an immediate end to any approach.

"It wasn’t even an offer. In fact, [PSG] blocked talks straight away," the 27-year-old told French outlet, Le Parisien.

“It shows the faith they have in me, it is an honour for a club like PSG to put such faith in me. The fact that others are interested in me means I am doing well. Paris and PSG are the only things on my mind.”

However, it wasn't just Marquinhos Tuchel was seemingly interested in bringing to Stamford Bridge with him, there was interest in the Brazilian's left-hand man Presenel Kimpembe too, according to L’Equipe.

The report claimed that the Blues were keeping an eye on the Frenchman over the summer following Sergio Ramos' arrival.

While it remains speculative that Tuchel will go to Paris with a £103.5 million - as per Transfermarkt - Christmas shopping list this winter, the German has already shown that he reacts to cracks by signing players from former clubs.
